The course
The half marathon is a USATF-certified course (AL13033JD). From the race’s own description:
- Miles 1-2: uphill from the water tower, past Oakwood Cemetery.
- Mile 3: Oak Park, which the race calls Montgomery’s oldest park.
- Mile 5: over Interstate 85.
- Miles 6-9: the Old Cloverdale neighborhood.
- Mile 10: the climb up Perry Street, then back over I-85.
- Finish: through downtown, down Dexter Avenue in front of the Alabama State Capitol, and into the outfield at Riverwalk Stadium.
The 5K starts at the same water tower, runs uphill for the first mile, comes down Dexter Avenue and finishes at Riverwalk Stadium. It is the 22nd annual Enlisted Heritage 5K, held by the USAF Enlisted Heritage Hall with the Air University Foundation, and raises money for the hall’s enlisted education programs and exhibits.
Road closures and parking
The race has not posted a list of street closures for 2027. The streets on the course map are the ones in use Saturday morning, from downtown out to Oak Park and Old Cloverdale and back.
For runners and spectators, the race’s FAQ says downtown parking meters are turned off on race day, so any meter without a sign is free, and parking decks are within walking distance of the start and finish.
Time limits
The half marathon has a four-hour limit, a pace of about 18 minutes, 19 seconds a mile. Runners slower than 1 hour 35 minutes at mile 5 or 3 hours 10 minutes at mile 10 are picked up; anyone who chooses to keep going must sign a waiver. Times are published up to 4 hours, 5 minutes. The race uses a gun start and chip finish.
