State agents served 11 narcotics search warrants across Montgomery on Oct. 27, seizing drugs, five guns and $14,157.93. Two men were arrested, ALEA said.

State and local officers served 11 narcotics search warrants at once at locations across Montgomery on Tuesday, Oct. 27. Two men were arrested. The Alabama Law Enforcement Agency said drugs, five guns and more than $14,000 in cash were seized.

The operation ended a five-month investigation led by ALEA’s State Bureau of Investigation and the Alabama Attorney General’s Office. The details are from ALEA’s news release of Oct. 30.

What was seized

Officers with the Alabama Drug Enforcement Task Force Region D carried out the warrants, the agency said. It listed these seizures:

Item Amount
Marijuana 15,932 grams
Synthetic drugs known as “Spice” 243 grams
Cocaine and crack cocaine 33 grams
MDMA, or “ecstasy” 516 grams, about 3,400 pills
Firearms Five, one confirmed stolen from Montgomery
AR-style upper receivers Three, with ammunition and magazines
Cash $14,157.93

The weights are the agency’s own figures. The marijuana total is about 35 pounds.

Who was arrested

ALEA said two Montgomery men were arrested and booked into the Montgomery County Jail:

  • Rodriquez Oates, 39, charged with one count of trafficking marijuana
  • Leon Howard III, 42, charged with one count of second-degree receiving stolen property

An arrest or charge is an accusation. Every person is presumed innocent unless and until convicted in court.

The agency said more charges and arrests may follow. It said nothing further is available because the investigation is ongoing. The release does not say where in the city the warrants were served.

Who took part

ALEA’s SWAT team, its Aviation Unit and agents from its Metro Area Crime Suppression Unit took part. So did SWAT teams from these local agencies, the release said:

  • Montgomery Police Department
  • Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office
  • Prattville Police Department
  • Wetumpka Police Department
  • Autauga, Chilton and Lee county sheriff’s offices

Investigators from the Montgomery and Wetumpka police departments and the Autauga County Sheriff’s Office also worked the case. The federal partners were Homeland Security Investigations, the Drug Enforcement Administration and the FBI.
