Overnight I-85 widening lane closures at Chantilly Parkway, no left turns onto the ramps, and I-85 lane closures from Ann Street to Eastern Boulevard.
Last checked 2026-10-29 (Oct. 29, 2026). This page is refreshed weekly. Facts come from ALDOT’s I-85 capacity project announcement, the I-85 Chantilly project site, ALDOT’s Montgomery County notices and the live work-zone records on ALGO Traffic, ALDOT’s traveler information site. The City of Montgomery’s website refused our requests on Oct. 29, so no city street closures are confirmed this week.
The biggest job on Montgomery’s roads is the I-85 widening on the east side: the Alabama Department of Transportation (ALDOT) is adding a third lane each way from Taylor Road to Jenkins Creek and replacing four bridges. Main construction was scheduled to begin Monday, Oct. 5, and the project site lists completion in fall 2030. Lane closures are limited to 7 p.m. to 5 a.m., Sunday through Thursday. ALGO Traffic, ALDOT’s traveler information system, also lists alternate lane closures on I-85 between Ann Street and Eastern Boulevard for the resurfacing job there, and two long-running US-80 work zones in the city with alternate lane closures. For live conditions on any state road, use ALGO Traffic, ALDOT’s traffic site and app.

Getting on I-85 at Chantilly Parkway while work goes on:
- To I-85 South: westbound drivers on Chantilly Parkway continue to Arrowhead Drive, make a U-turn at a temporary signal, and come back east to the ramp.
- To I-85 North: eastbound drivers use the existing U-turn at Eastchase Parkway, then come back west to the ramp.
Traffic will keep moving under the I-85 bridges for most of the project. Tearing down the old bridges will take two weekend closures of Chantilly Parkway, one bridge at a time; the contractor must give at least two weeks’ notice of each, and the project site will post the detour map. As of Oct. 29, neither the project site nor ALDOT had announced a date for either weekend closure, so none falls in the next two weeks. ALDOT said a rolling roadblock on an early Sunday morning would come first for utility work, with notice beforehand; no date has been posted.
Could not confirm this week
- I-85 resurfacing finish date: ALDOT has not said when the Ann Street to Eastern Boulevard job will be complete. ALGO Traffic’s Oct. 28 listing gave an end date of Oct. 29, and the work may be renewed; check ALGO Traffic before you go.
- Wares Ferry Road bridge: the city’s May 8 update said Wares Ferry Road was fully closed at the bridge about 900 feet north of McLemore Drive, with a posted detour, and that the city expected to reopen it at the beginning of summer. We could not find a reopening notice from the city.
- City street closures: the city’s website refused our requests on Oct. 29. Call Traffic Engineering at 334-625-2912 for permitted street closures.
City streets
The city’s Traffic Engineering office handles traffic signals, signs and pavement markings, speed limits, street lights, and sidewalk and road closure permits. The Engineering Department coordinates and inspects construction, reviews development plans, and handles stormwater, flood determinations and bridge inspection. The city does not publish a single list of street projects; we add them here as the city announces them.
Before you drive
- Check ALGO Traffic for the map and cameras along I-85, I-65 and US-80.
- Expect the I-85 overnight closures to continue for the length of the project.
- Watch for reduced speed limits and trucks entering and leaving the work zones.
