Montgomery Public Schools’ spring break is Monday, March 29, through Friday, April 2, 2027. The district’s asynchronous learning day falls just before it, on Friday, March 26. Private schools and neighboring districts set their own dates.

Free ideas

  • Museum of Alabama, 624 Washington Ave.: free, 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday to Saturday. The Children’s Gallery has a limestone cave, an ecology wall, history play spaces and an interactive spacecraft.
  • Montgomery Museum of Fine Arts, One Museum Drive: free entry and parking; 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Tuesday to Saturday, noon to 5 p.m. Sunday.
  • Alabama State Capitol, 600 Dexter Ave.: free daily tours; call 334-242-3935.
  • Parks: Vaughn Road Park’s Boundless Playground, the Riverwalk and Lagoon Park’s trails. See kids’ activities and walking and biking trails.

The zoo opened every day of Easter weekend in 2026, 9:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., on its city listing.

Montgomery Whitewater in spring

Montgomery Whitewater, 1100 Maxwell Blvd., ended its 2026 season after Labor Day and is closed for winter maintenance. In 2026 it reopened for spring with a Hootenanny Spring Kick-Off on March 21, a 5K and a 1-mile fun run, an International Canoe Federation world ranking race March 13-15 and the Down South Paddle Battle March 27-29. Its Saturday Nature School for ages 2 to 10 ran March 7 to May 30. We will post 2027 dates when the park announces them.
