Register or update your registration
You can register at any time; the cutoff for a given election is 15 days before Election Day. Register online, or print the state form and mail it to the Board of Registrars. The same form updates your address or name. Once you are approved, the board mails a voter identification card with your polling place and districts; you do not need to bring it to vote. The county notes that registration information may be checked against federal immigration records.
Voting absentee
To vote absentee, apply to the county’s Absentee Election Manager (334-832-1281) with one of the reasons the state allows, among them expecting to be out of the county on Election Day, an illness or disability that prevents a trip to the polls, a required work shift of 10 hours or more during polling hours, or living outside the county as a student or service member. Include a copy of your photo ID. The returned ballot’s affidavit must be signed before a notary or two witnesses 18 or older. Return the application yourself, by U.S. mail or by commercial carrier; it may not share an envelope with another voter’s application. Get the county’s form on the state’s absentee application page.
Emergency absentee applications can be made after the deadline, until 5 p.m. the day before the election, if an employer unexpectedly requires you elsewhere, you are caring for someone who needs emergency treatment, or a close family member died within five days of the election.
