Trash pickup on Labor Day week
On a holiday week the City of Montgomery runs garbage routes early, one pickup only, and picks up yard trash “as time permits.” The city ran that pattern for Labor Day 2026, as it did for the Fourth of July and Memorial Day. The block party. The Culture In Motion Community Boost Block Party at the Rosa Parks Museum was free and family-friendly, with live performances and DJs, local food vendors and children’s activities.
Montgomery Whitewater. The park, 1100 Maxwell Blvd., held a Labor Day 5K and a Lil Tri for young athletes, with rafting, kayaking, tubing and ropes courses through the day. The park ended its 2026 season after Labor Day and is closed for winter maintenance; watch its site for the 2027 season.
On the river. The city’s Harriott II ran its Saturday Getaway Cruise, and the Sip-n-Cycle Pedal Cruise ran a Labor Day river cruise. Harriott II: 334-625-2100.

Montgomery Public Schools’ 2026-27 calendar listed Labor Day, Monday, Sept. 7, 2026, as a holiday for all schools and offices. The district’s 2027-28 calendar had not been approved when we checked; we will add the 2027 date when it is.
