The Chamber holds ribbon cuttings for new buildings, renovations and new businesses alike, so some entries mark a move or a makeover, not a brand-new company.
Where the openings are
- EastChase drew the most: two hotels side by side, the Express Oil training center and Princess Me.
- Carmichael Road saw two car dealerships, Genesis and Hyundai, celebrate next door to each other.
- Downtown gained Luna de Mexico on Commerce Street.
Getting a city business license
The city’s License and Revenue Division issues business licenses and sales tax numbers. There are two applications:
- Commercial address (PDF): for a business at a storefront or office; the owner also needs a certificate of occupancy for the location.
- No physical location (PDF): for home-based and out-of-town businesses.
During license renewal season the division stops taking new registrations, renewals and payments at 3:30 p.m. each day; later transactions can go in the drop box at 25 Washington Ave.
What this means for you
- New places to try downtown and at EastChase.
- Planning to open? Check zoning with Land Use (334-625-2722) before you sign a lease.
- Tell us about your opening and we will add it next month.
More guides: building permits and zoning, restaurant inspections and who to call at City Hall.
