Find your school and enroll

  1. Look up your zone. Enter your address in the district’s school zone search.
  2. Register online through PowerSchool, using the new or returning student form above.
  3. Bring the documents MPS requires for every student, at every grade: - a parent or guardian photo ID (Alabama driver’s license or nondriver ID, military ID or passport); - the student’s original birth certificate (photocopies are not accepted unless approved); - a valid Alabama Certificate of Immunization; out-of-state records must be transferred to the Alabama form first, which the county health department can do; - at least two primary proofs of residency with the parent’s physical address, required every year.

Age rules: a child must be 5 on or before Sept. 1 to start kindergarten and 6 on or before Dec. 31 to start first grade, under Alabama law quoted by the district.

MPS also runs magnet schools, career academies and the MPACT career technical program; see the magnet schools page for application dates.

Ratings and report cards

The Alabama State Department of Education grades every school and district from A to F on its report card site: choose the year, “Montgomery County” and the school. A grade sums up test results, academic growth, graduation rates and other measures; the site shows each part. Compare schools on the full report card, not the letter alone.
